The Traditional Brass Jalladai Plate with Fine Holes (also referred to as a Brass Abhisheka Thalika / Sieve / Perforated Jaladhara Plate) is a traditional vessel used for sacred religious bathing rituals and kitchen sieving.
Core Specifications & Features
Pure Brass Construction: Forged from high-grade, heavy-duty brass that provides durability, corrosion resistance, and traditional golden luster.
Dense Micro-Perforations (Fine Jalladai Pattern): Punctured with hundreds of closely spaced, tiny uniform holes across the base. When liquids are poured through, the fine holes break the flow into a gentle, shower-like cascade resembling natural rainfall (dhara).
Deep Straight-Wall Rim: Designed with raised vertical sidewalls to hold grains, flours, or sacred liquids without side-spilling.
Glossy Polished Finish: Smooth, mirror-like polished brass surface that is simple to wipe clean and maintain.
Dual Traditional Uses
1. Pooja & Sacred Rituals (Primary Use)
Deity Abhishekam & Thirumanjanam: Held directly above Shivalingas, Saligramas, or deity idols while pouring theertham (holy water), milk, rosewater, or honey. It ensures an even, continuous, and divine shower of holy offerings over the idol.
Ceremonial Snanam: Essential during auspicious life milestone rites such as Sashtiapthapoorthi (60th birthday), Sadabhishekam (80th birthday), and Seemantham (baby shower rituals) to sprinkle holy water over the couple or individual.
2. Traditional Kitchen Sieving
Grain & Flour Sieving: Used to sift and separate husk, stones, and coarse particles from rice, wheat, semolina (rava), and millets.
Rinsing & Straining: Acts as an eco-friendly colander to rinse grains, pulses, and vegetables under running water without letting small grains wash down the drain.
Care & Maintenance Guidelines
Daily Washing: Wash with a soft sponge, warm water, and mild dish soap. Avoid wire brushes, steel wool, or abrasive pads to prevent scratching the polished brass surface.
Clearing Blocked Holes: If flour residue or milk sediment clogs the fine holes, soak the plate in warm water for a few minutes and clean through with a soft-bristled brush.
Restoring Golden Shine: Brass naturally oxidizes over time. Rub the surface with Pitambari powder, lemon juice mixed with salt, or tamarind pulp to quickly restore its reflective golden hue. Rinse thoroughly and wipe dry immediately to avoid water spots.
